Motorhoming tips

Fuel was as expensive as in UK ( as at summer 09).

Like the Czech Republic you need a vignette to use the roads ( all roads not just motorways). This can be bought at the border.

Camp sites in the east of the country were pretty few and far between. We bought a map that purported to show camp sites but it was out of date, we looked for campsites shown on the map which no longer existed. It may be different in the west but we did not go there.

Camping Betula stands out as a very nice spot to camp.

Other campsites were simple but empty when we were there. One site was locked up for the evening and we had to phone up to get in ( challenging when you do not speak Slovakian). Another appeared closed but helpful man appeared and settled us in. My tip is to pull over and investigate  even if it looks closed.

We were not alone in having some difficulty finding camp sites, we met others later in the journey who had had the same problem as we had, and had bought the same camping map as we had.

You will need a two pin adaptor for most sites.

Sanitary facilities in campsites ( but not Camping Betula) can be  basic.
