We are currently travelling through heavily wooded mountainous areas but the valleys are farmed intensively mostly rice growing and right now lots of the rice is being harvested and dried on wooden racks.
The crop is harvested with a specifically designed machine operated by one man i.e. no tractor following alongside like in Europe. We watched up to twelve black kites following the machine and collecting we don’t know quite what, they were too quick.

So while in UK it’s the seagulls following tractors and in Portugal that job is taken over by the cattle egrets but here in Japan we have black kites following the harvest. Now that’s what I call class.
We have seen more black kites than any other species of bird, they’re everywhere.
