Introduction
Our last night in Croatia was spent at Autocamp Nevio and from there we drove to Trapanj on the other side of the peninsula to catch the ferry to Ploce . This cost about 40 euro and as it took about an hour and also cut a chunk out of our drive up the Croatian coast it was good value. However the ferry itself was a bit of an adventure: it looks like a larger version of a WW2 tank-landing craft, with the entrance/exit at one end only. So in order to get off frontwards you have to load up in reverse. This was a challenge in itself but not helped by three men speaking only Serbo-Croat, each of whom was giving different instructions. Anyway we got aboard and an hour later started our trek northwards and having driven for nine or ten hours between us we finally arrived into Slovenia and stopped at a coastal resort called Adria Ankoram for the night. I know that many years ago people took package holidays to Yugoslavia – I don’t know where these went but this huge holiday park may have been one such destination as it looked as though it had been around since the sixties. The restaurant had a very dated appearance but the food was good value though the clientele all seemed a bit aged (even to us) and I was minded of the TV programme Waiting for God.
Next morning we drove through some atrocious weather, and when we got to Camping Bled it had let up only slightly – it was not encouraging when I spoke to the Belgian lady next door who said that she had been there five days and had enjoyed only one non-rainy day. We began making plans for a sharp exit but the rain eventually cleared and the sun emerged.
